Napa: Hennessy Fire Threatens Winery As LNU Lightning Complex Fires Rage

08.20.2020 | 7:30 AM | NAPA – The Hennessy Fire threatened to destroy a winery as the largest of the LNU Lightning Complex fires scorches over 100,000 acres, Thursday morning.

The fire was one of many believed to have been started by a surge of nearly 11,000 lightning strikes amid record heat.

It started along Hennessey Ridge Road in Napa County and destroyed at least three buildings while scorching 100,000 acres of land.

The fast-moving flames were quickly approaching the Merlot Vineyard winery where firefighters were preparing to wage battle in order to protect the property.

Mandatory evacuations orders remain in effect with officials calling the fire an immediate threat to life.

The cluster of fires set off by lightning strikes, which includes the Hennessey Fire, are being referred to collectively as the LNU Lightning Complex Fires.

A state of emergency is in effect due to the hundreds of fires burning throughout California.
