Muscoy: Pursuit Ends With Fatal Deputy-Involved Shooting, Child Inside Vehicle Injured
01.09.2020 | 9:29 PM | MUSCOY – A pursuit that ended in a fatal deputy-involved shooting left a suspect dead and a 2-year-old child injured, Thursday night.
Deputies attempted to stop a Buick Rainier for driving recklessly on the eastbound I-210 Freeway near Highland Avenue around 9:29 PM.
The driver of the vehicle, later identified as s 24-year-old Juan Ayon-Ruiz of Yucaipa, failed to yield to deputies and led them on a high-speed pursuit.
The chase lasted for about a half hour before the suspect exited the freeway in Muscoy and crashed into a mailbox near the intersection of Blake and Otto streets around 10:00 PM.
A number of deputies attempted to conduct a felony traffic stop on the driver when a deputy-involved shooting occurred.
The suspect succumbed to his injuries on scene but authorities clearing the man’s vehicle found an unrestrained 2-year-old child inside.
The child was transported to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The circumstances surrounding the fatal deputy-involved shooting remain under investigation.
