Murrieta: Tenaja Fire Grows To 250+ Acres

09.04.2019 | 3:56 PM | MURRIETA – Firefighters were battling fast-moving fire dubbed the Tenaja Fire, Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities responded to reports of a brush fire near the intersection of Teneja and Clinton Keith roads around 3:56 PM.

Crews arriving on scene located a fire burning in heavy vegetation and threatening nearby homes.

Firefighters worked to battle the flames while defending homes but the blaze quickly grew to over 250 acres.

Officials reported that approximately 5% of the fire had been contained by 7:45 PM.

Although the cause of the fire was still under investigation, officials reported that it may have been triggered by lightning in the area.

Approximately 20 residences on Trails Circle were evacuated as the fired raged on.

The San Jacinto Animal Shelter is providing accommodations for large animals and small animals as well as their human companions can stay at a reception center at the Murrieta Mesa High School.

Crews on the ground and in the air were working overnight to control the fire.
