Multiple Explosions As Firefighters Battle 3rd Alarm Fire

DETAILS:

  1. Phoenix Fire responded to reports of a commercial structure fire around midnight.
  2. The first arriving engine company located heavy smoke and flames billowing through the roof of a large commercial warehouse style structure.
  3. Crews balanced the assignment to a first alarm fire and began working to gain access to the property.
  4. Crews deployed several hand lines for fire attack.
  5. The assignment was then balanced to a second alarm followed by a 3rd alarm.
  6. Firefighters transitioned to defensive operational tactics due to extreme fire activity and structural hazards.
  7. Several explosions sent fireballs and flaming debris high into the sky.
  8. Multiple tower ladders were deployed over the fire ground allowing crews to attack the flames with elevated master streams.
  9. According to PFD Captain Todd Keller, lithium ion batteries have been located inside the structure.
  10. Crews remain on scene as of 4:00 AM working to completely extinguish the fire.
  11. Fire investigators are on scene and no injuries have been reported.
