Mountain Lion Killed In La Mesa

INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 5-28-24 3:30 am approx
LOCATION: WB I-8 JEO Lake Murray Blvd/70th St exit
AREA/CITY: San Diego/La Mesa
DETAILS:

 

1. A driver called in to the CHP stating that there was a dead deer in the westbound traffic lanes of the I-8.
2. A CHP officer arrived and found that the large animal was actually a Mountain Lion.
3. The officer moved the Cougar to the right shoulder, and the California Fish & Game was notified so they could come and recover the animal.
4. There was no tracking collar on the Mountain Lion.
5. The driver who hit the animal did not call in the incident apparently.
6. It is extremely rare and unheard of for a Mountain Lion to be inside a large human population area like this.
