Motorcyclist Dies After Multi-Bike Crash On 215 Freeway

One motorcyclist has died and two others were injured following a complicated multi-vehicle crash Tuesday night on the 215 Freeway in Perris.

At approximately 9:54 p.m. on August 4, 2026, the California Highway Patrol and CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department responded to northbound Interstate 215 near Harley Knox Boulevard following reports of a collision involving multiple vehicles.

Crews arrived to find three motorcycles down and a passenger vehicle stopped nearby. All three motorcycle riders were transported to local hospitals. One rider suffered major injuries and was initially listed in critical condition, while the other two sustained moderate and minor injuries.

According to preliminary information, two motorcycles were traveling together northbound when a third motorcyclist, who was traveling separately, became involved in a collision with the other riders.

Following the initial crash, a semi-truck traveling behind the motorcycles braked. A car behind the semi swerved and exited toward Harley Knox Boulevard. During the aftermath of the crash, one of the downed motorcyclists stood up in the roadway and was struck by the car.

The driver of the car remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Video shows significant damage to the vehicle, including a shattered windshield.

The critically injured rider later died at the hospital. According to the Riverside County Coroner, he has been identified as 40-year-old Daniel Bernston of Perris.

CHP has not yet released its official press release regarding the fatal collision. Preliminary information indicates drugs or alcohol do not appear to have been factors.

The California Highway Patrol’s Riverside Area is continuing to investigate the crash.
