Montebello: Arsonist Fuels Fire, Then Tackled By Officers

04.10.2019 | 12:25 AM | Montebello – A man is facing arson charges after lighting a bush on fire, early Wednesday morning.

Officers and Firefighters from the city of Montebello were dispatched to the 230 Block of E Whittier Blvd in regards to a small fire next to a storage facility.

Officers arrived to find a male subject barricaded in an adjacent bush, taunting and threatening officers.

A five minute standoff ensued as firefighters awaited for the detainment of the unruly man.

As officers converged on the suspect, he poured an alcoholic container onto the fire, causing a small fireball that made the fire bigger.

Officers immediately tackled the suspect before he could further spread the fire to other shrubbery or even the building.

The suspect was arrested and booked into Montebello PD’s jail on suspicion of arson.
