Montclair: Homeless Encampment Fire Spreads To Brush

10.07.2019 | 1:30 AM | MONTCLAIR – A fire that started at a homeless encampment spread to nearby brush and forced railroad traffic to halt, early Monday morning.

Authorities responded to reports of a fire burning in the 4500 block of Brooks Street around 1:30 AM.

Units arriving on scene located a brush fire burning behind a commercial building near railroad tracks.

Firefighters worked to quickly extinguish the fire which is believed to have started at a homeless encampment located underneath a pedestrian bridge.

All railroad traffic was stopped while authorities remained on scene to investigate.

No injuries were reported.
