MISSION BAY: Lifeguards Rescue Boat Full of Illegal Immigrants

LOCATION: SD City Lifeguard Station (Mission Bay)
AREA/CITY: San Diego
DETAILS:

 

  1. The SD City Lifeguards received calls of a boat full of illegal immigrants foundering in the ocean off of Ocean Beach.
  2. The Lifeguard dispatched a rescue boat, and upon arrival, they found 17 men, women, and juveniles onboard.
  3. They either ran out of gas or their engine failed, and they were drifting towards the rock jetty. Some were seen attempting to paddle ashore.
  4. The boat was towed to the Lifeguard boat docks, and a second boat was sent to escort the other two.
  5. U.S. Border Patrol arrived and took the 17 immigrants into custody without incident.
  6. Lifeguards provided blankets to the immigrants and got them under cover from falling rain.
