Military Police Help in Search For Hit & Run Driver | National City

INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 1-29-23 1:56 am LOCATION: SB I-5 & Main St On-ramp CITY: National City DETAILS: The male victim was southbound on the I-5 in a Lincoln SUV was suddenly hit by the driver of a Mazda. Both vehicles left the freeway and the Lincoln ended up blocking the freeway on-ramp from Main St and the Naval Base San Diego Yama St base gate. The Mazda ended up leaving the roadway and went down a steep embankment before going over the edge of a large storm channel and came to rest on its roof/side against the Naval Base security fence. The driver of the Mazda apparently kicked out the rear window and fled on foot. Military Police and Base Police started searching the immediate area for the driver. The victim was transported to a local hospital to be checked for any injuries. The ramp was closed for over 3 hours for the clean-up, towing of the vehicles and the investigation by the CHP.
