Military Helicopters Descend On Long Beach Hotel

Shortly after midnight on June 5, 2026, military personnel conducted a large-scale training exercise at the abandoned Golden Sails Hotel along Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach.

Residents reported hearing helicopters, flash bangs, and simulated gunfire as multiple military aircraft arrived and deployed troops onto the property.

Video from the scene showed personnel moving throughout the hotel complex in what appeared to be a hostage rescue or tactical training scenario. Simulated opposing forces could also be heard returning fire as part of the exercise.

Around 12:45 a.m., military helicopters returned to the area and extracted personnel from the operation.

Long Beach Police officers assisted with traffic control and temporarily shut down portions of Pacific Coast Highway while helicopters hovered low over the roadway, creating strong winds and blowing debris throughout the area.

City officials had previously advised the public that military training exercises would be occurring in the eastern portion of Long Beach, though some residents expressed frustration over the limited details provided in advance.

The exercise was part of a series of military training operations conducted across multiple Southern California cities in recent days.
