Migrants in Wetsuits Cross Border Through Polluted Waters | Imperial Beach
09.27.2022 | 7:00 AM | IMPERIAL BEACH – Five males entered the ocean at Playas de Tijuana on the Mexican side of the Border.
They were all wearing wetsuits and some had swim fins.
They swam around the Border Wall that extends out into the Surfline and they headed north.
When they made it to the shoreline of Imperial Beach, they came up on the beach and started walking north on the beach.
U.S. Border Patrol Agents surprised them at Cortes St.
The 5 males started to walk south along the water.
The Agents followed them for over one mile down towards the mouth of the Tijuana River (a highly polluted waterway).
The 5 entered the water again and started to swim back to Mexico.
Imperial Beach Lifeguards were called in for assistance in case there was a need for a rescue.
A U.S. Border Patrol helicopter hovered overhead to watch them.
One of the 5 males decided to come back to shore and surrender as he was too tired to swim back south.
