Massive Teen Takeover Brings Hundreds To Downtown Houston

At approximately 9:23 p.m. on June 13, 2026, Houston Police responded to reports of a large “teenager takeover” gathering at Discovery Green in downtown Houston.

According to authorities, officers arrived to find an estimated 500 to 600 juveniles and numerous adults gathered at the park. Additional personnel from the Houston Police Department’s Downtown Division, Patrol Support Division, and rapid mobilization units were called in to assist with crowd control efforts.

Police said one of their primary concerns was preventing the crowd from moving toward the nearby FIFA Fan Fest and creating additional public safety issues.

As officers worked to disperse the gathering, another large crowd formed across the street. Multiple gunshots were then heard, prompting numerous officers to run toward the area to investigate.

Authorities reported that no injuries occurred during the first round of gunfire and no officers were harmed.

Approximately 10 to 15 minutes later, a second round of shots was fired, leading to an even larger police response. More than 100 officers ultimately responded to assist with crowd control and enforcement efforts.

Police remained in the area for several hours working to disperse the crowd and maintain order.

Investigators detained one juvenile male and one adult male, both of whom were found in possession of firearms. Authorities said both individuals were located near the area where shots had been fired.

An investigative division is assisting with the case, and additional charges remain possible as the investigation continues.

Police credited the response with preventing any major incidents from spilling over into the FIFA Fan Fest area.
