Massive Smoke Column as Fire Tears Through Apartments on San Marcos Blvd

- SAN MARCOS: At approximately 1:22 PM, multiple reports of a structure fire were received on the 200 block of W San Marcos Blvd. Responding units reported seeing a visible smoke column from a distance, and a working fire was quickly established.Upon arrival, firefighters found a one-story apartment building actively burning, with fire spreading through the attic. A second alarm was requested shortly after, followed by a third alarm due to the extent of the fire. Firefighters from multiple surrounding cities were called in to assist, along with SDG&E.
The cause of the fire remains unknown and is currently under investigation. Preliminary information indicates that approximately 25 adults and 5 children may have been displaced, though this number has not yet been confirmed.
