Massive Mudslide And Flash Flooding Hit San Bernardino Mountains

Torrential rain triggered dangerous flash flooding, mudslides, and debris flows across the San Bernardino Mountains early Thursday morning.

On October 22, 2026, heavy rain battered mountain communities for several hours, flooding streets and highways while dense fog created extremely poor visibility.

Around 9:20 a.m., a massive debris flow along Moon Drive in Crestline sent a powerful river of mud, rocks, and debris through a residential neighborhood, shutting down access to the area.

In Running Springs, a mudslide near the top of Live Oak Drive forced the closure of an uphill lane near Highway 18.

Flooding was also reported along Highways 18 and 189, with heavy fog and rainfall making roadway hazards difficult to see.

One resident experienced significant flooding as water poured down a mountainside and across the front of a garage.

Hail was also reported in multiple areas as powerful storm cells continued moving through the mountains.

Additional rainfall was expected through Friday afternoon.
