Massive Boyle Heights Warehouse Fire Burns For Days

Firefighters continued battling a massive warehouse fire in Boyle Heights on June 22, 2026, nearly five days after flames first erupted at the Lineage Logistics cold storage facility on South Los Palos Street.

The fire began shortly after 2:30 p.m. on June 17 and quickly spread across a rooftop covered with solar panels. An ammonia leak inside the facility and heavy smoke prompted emergency alerts and shelter-in-place recommendations for nearby residents and businesses.

Los Angeles Fire Department crews have spent days combating persistent hot spots inside the warehouse while dealing with challenges posed by high-voltage solar equipment, lithium-ion batteries, and massive storage racks that limit interior access.

Officials said firefighters made significant progress overnight by confining the fire to one side of the building and removing portions of exterior walls to improve access. Helicopters, specialized water cannons, and additional emergency resources have been deployed to support suppression efforts.

Residents in the surrounding community have been urged to remain indoors when possible, keep windows and doors closed, and limit exposure to smoke. Air purifiers, masks, food, and other resources are being distributed throughout the affected area.

Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass have both issued emergency declarations to support firefighting and recovery efforts.

According to Lineage Logistics, the company has committed millions of dollars in community assistance, including a $2 million contribution to support residents impacted by the incident. Officials also stated that ammonia has been removed from the facility and that no measurable ammonia levels have been detected in the surrounding community since the fire began.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
