Man With Knife Threatens Firefighters While On Scene Of House Fire

INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 12-20-23 | 10:34 p.m.
LOCATION: 156 W 84th St
AREA/CITY: Los Angeles
DETAILS:

1. LAFD responded to a report of a house on fire
2. Crews arrived to find light smoke showing from a 2 story duplex
3. Crews made access to the residence and found a small fire in a closet upstairs
4. While crews were attempting to extinguish the flames, a man with a knife began threatening the firefighters
5. A help call was made to LAPD
6. Firefighters had to leave the area & some had to hide inside of the house to stay away from the man
7. Officers arrived and attempted to talk the man down
8. The man stated he was on meth and wanted officers to shoot him
9. The man eventually dropped the knife
10. Officers were able to take the man into custody without further incident
11. No injuries were reported
12. It is unclear if the man lit the fire or how he came into play at the scene
