Man Shot As Fire Burns At El Monte Home
A man was hospitalized following a shooting as authorities responded to a house fire and reports of an armed person Sunday evening in El Monte.
The incident began around 6:53 p.m. on September 13, 2026, in the 5100 block of Elrovia Avenue.
According to preliminary information, El Monte police requested assistance from a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department helicopter regarding a person reportedly armed with a gun at the burning home. Firefighters were initially directed to stage away from the scene while officers addressed the potential threat.
Neighbors told a photographer at the scene that they heard what they believed was police gunfire during the incident. Authorities had not immediately confirmed whether officers fired their weapons or whether the shooting was officer-involved.
One male was placed onto a stretcher and transported to Los Angeles General Medical Center with injuries of unknown severity.
Once the scene was secured, firefighters moved in to battle the house fire and brought the blaze under control. Arson investigators also responded as authorities began investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire and shooting.
Los Angeles County Fire Department Capt. Aaron Katon provided additional information at the scene.
The circumstances surrounding the man’s shooting remain unclear, and authorities had not confirmed whether the incident was an officer-involved shooting.
