San Gabriel: Man Shoots at Police, Torches Family’s House
06.06.2019 | 12:30 PM | SAN GABRIEL – A male was fatally wounded by SWAT teams after hours of shooting at police, deputies, firefighters and torching two homes belonging to his family Thursday afternoon.
The chaos all began around 12:30 PM, when officers were called to the 2000 Block of Brighton Street for a man inside the location armed with a gun.
He had reportedly aimed a shotgun at family member(s) earlier, and when officers made contact, he opened fire on them.
Fortunately, no one was struck by the gunfire, however the scene rapidly became a barricade situation that lasted about 6 hours.
During this time, he continually fired rounds at first responders who deployed around the home.
About halfway through the barricade, the man set his family’s front home on fire. Firefighters were forced to move behind cover and begin fighting the flames from a safe distance as the suspect continued to fire rounds from the burning home.
The suspect eventually fled the burning home, into a back house, where he set the second house on fire.
As the second home started to burn, the man starting setting off fireworks for unknown reasons.
Around 6:45 PM, the man emerged with a shotgun, aimed at swat personnel, prompting them to take him out.
Five rounds were fired at the suspect and he was later pronounced deceased.
The area was closed to the public well into the night as investigators continued to canvas the area and the burnt homes for evidence.
