Man Killed In Head On Traffic Collision

MORENO VALLEY  – A 60-year-old man was fatally injured and two people were hurt in a head-on collision at a Moreno Valley intersection, authorities said Thursday.

Jay Britton of Moreno Valley died in the crash shortly after 9 p.m. Wednesday at Ironwood Avenue and Helga Lane, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

The agency said Britton was driving on Ironwood, approaching Helga, when his vehicle “crossed over into oncoming traffic,” slamming into a car heading in the opposite direction. It was unclear which vehicle was headed east or west.

County fire department paramedics reached the location minutes later and pronounced Britton dead at the scene.

The two occupants of the other car, whose identities were not disclosed, were taken to nearby Riverside University Medical Center for treatment of unspecified non-life-threatening injuries, from which they’re expected to fully recover.

The collision remains under investigation.

According to Riverside County Sheriffs office, PIO, Sgt. Wenndy Brito-Gonzalez, at 9:16 PM, deputies were dispatched to the area of Ironwood Avenue and Helga Lane in Moreno Valley regarding a major injury traffic collision. The driver of one vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver and passenger of the second vehicle were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The cause of the collision is still under investigation.

***According to Sgt. Brito-Gonzalez, the scene is being held as a crime scene because they think that one of the drivers may be the suspect of a different incident, but that is still being investigated.
