Driver Ejected and Killed After Amazon Truck Runs Red Light

District 3 deputies were dispatched at approximately 22:57 to a major crash at the intersection of South Sam Houston Parkway West and SH-288 Feeder Rd.

Deputies arrived and found a crash involving a sedan and a commercial motor vehicle. (Amazon truck)

One male occupant of the sedan was ejected. Witnesses stated he was not wearing a seat belt at the time.

Emergency medical services arrived and pronounced the male deceased at the scene.

The commercial motor vehicle was found to have run a red light, based on the investigation and dash camera footage.

The commercial motor vehicle was traveling southbound in the number two lane, and the sedan was traveling westbound in the number one lane when the collision occurred.

The deceased is the driver of the sedan, a black male driver, who appeared to be in his late twenties, early thirties, and his identity has not yet been confirmed.

There were no signs of intoxication; no charges have been filed at this time.

The commercial motor vehicle driver initially stated he had a yellow light, but dash camera review showed he had a red light throughout.

The commercial motor vehicle may have been blinded by another set of nearby traffic lights, which displayed a green light.
