Major Injury Boating Accident | Mission Bay
08.22.2021 | 10:36 AM | SAN DIEGO – A family of 3 were on a motorized inflatable boat that the older man had just bought yesterday. They were in the s\”Ski Beach” section of Mission Bay and were paddling the boat after running out of gas. Two people on a ski boat were out doing their water skiing. The woman in red was the boat driver and the man in grey was the skier. Witnesses said the boat driver seemed to be impatient with the people in the inflatable and was honking her horn at them, then the boat made its ski run pass the family in the inflatable. A few minutes later, they came back down the bay at a high rate of speed towing the skier again. The skier was doing a slalom and as he went around the family, he raised his tow rope up to try and clear the family and did not raise it high enough and the rope hit the female victim in the head. She suffered major head and facial injuries. Lifeguards were called and they helped get the victim to shore at Fiesta island’s Ski Beach. According to our witness, who states he has a lot of experience in boating, stated that the boat captain was violating several boating safety rules when the accident occurred. The Lifeguards stated that this is a permitted area and only the water ski boats are supposed to be on this body of water. The family in the inflatable were not supposed to be present. The woman was rushed to the hospital for her major injuries. No one else was injured, but the child was highly upset and stressed. Both of the boats were impounded for the investigation.
