Los Angeles: Wild Wrong-Way Pursuit Ends With Shots Fired, Barricaded Subject
03.29.2019 | 7:30 PM | LOS ANGELES – A man was in custody after leading officers on a wild pursuit that involving ramming police vehicles and driving wrong-way on a busy freeway, Friday night.
Officers responded to reports of a reckless driver in the Sunland area around 7:30 PM.
Units attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver failed to yield.
A wild pursuit ensued as the driver struck police and civilian vehicles while attempting to flee.
Eventually the suspect entered northbound lanes of the I-5 Freeway going southbound.
The driver plowed through a police roadblock at which point an officer involving shooting occurred.
Undetermined the man continued to drive wrong-way against traffic before colliding with a vehicle and prompting a barricade situation.
Using less-than-lethal rounds officers subdued the suspect who was found to be in possession of a six-inch knife.
The freeway was closed for hours while authorities investigated the circumstances surrounding the pursuit and use-of-force incidents.
