Los Angeles: Protesters Rally Against Killing Of George Floyd, Police Brutality
05.27.2020 | 4:00 PM | LOS ANGELES – Hundreds rallied against the killing of George Floyd and police brutality in general by protesting in downtown, Wednesday evening.
Several hundred protesters gathered outside the Halls of Justice in the 200 block of West Temple Street in the downtown area around 4:00 PM.
The mostly peaceful rally turned violent then protesters entered the US-101 Freeway near Alameda Street around 6:00 PM.
When California Highway Patrol officers attempted to disperse the crowd who were blocking traffic they were attacked prompting both officers to make a tactical retreat.
One person who jumped on one of the patrol vehicles fell off and was injured but later transported to a hospital with minor injuries.
A second officer who tried to stop and help the downed person was also surrounded and attacked by protesters.
The group eventually exited the freeway and continued to march along city streets for hours before eventually dispersing.
No arrests were immediately made.
