Los Angeles: Multiple Firefighters Injured After Butane Honey Oil Explosion (Caught On Camera)
05.16.2020 | 6:26 PM | LOS ANGELES – A massive explosion at a butane honey oil manufacturing lab fire left eleven firefighters injured and damaged several buildings, Saturday evening.
Authorities responded to reports of a commercial fire burning at the Smoke Tokes Warehouse Distributor located in the 300 block of East Boyd Street in the Toy District in the downtown area around 6:26 PM.
Units arriving on scene located heavy smoke and fire showing from the one-story butane honey oil manufacturing lab supplier and began efforts to attack the blaze.
Only minutes into their attack at around 6:30 PM a massive explosion occurred prompting a “mayday” call by firefighters as flames shot out of the building.
Crews quickly evacuated the building but eleven firefighters had suffered from injuries related to the explosion.
The incident was upgraded to a “major emergency fire” and resources from across the city responded to assist the downed firefighters.
All even firefighters were transported to area hospitals in varying conditions. As of Sunday morning three firefighters had been released but eight others remain hospitalized. Some suffered from major injuries but all were expected to survive.
It took more than 230 firefighters over an hour to extinguish the blaze that ended up damaging several adjacent buildings.
All directions of Boyd Street between Wall and San Pedro streets were closed until further notice while the fire is under investigation.
