Los Angeles: Getty Fire Burns Through Sepulveda Pass Prompting Evacuations
10.28.2019 | 1:30 AM | LOS ANGELES – A fire named the “Getty Fire” burned through more than 600 acres in the Sepulveda Pass and prompted more than ten thousand evacuations, early Monday morning.
Authorities responded to reports of a fire burning on a hillside near the I-405 Freeway and Getty Center Drive around 1:30 AM.
Units arriving on scene found an approximately 40 acres of brush burning in heavy winds with a rapid rate of spread.
Crews on the ground and in the air battled the flames but the fire quickly exploded to over 600 acres.
Several structures burned and over ten thousand people were evacuated as a result of the fire.
There was no word on any containment of the fire and the cause is under investigation.
