Long Beach: Street Racers Arrested, Cars Towed By Task Force
04.19.2020 | 12:30 AM | LONG BEACH – Multiple people were arrested and cars towed by the California Highway Patrol’s Street Racing Task Force after engaging in street takeovers and other dangerous stunts, early Sunday morning.
A specialized Street Racing Task Force orchestrated by the California Highway Patrol with assistance from the Los Angeles Police Department were tracking a group of about a hundred vehicles engaged in street takeovers around in Los Angeles and Orange counties around midnight.
The group of vehicles were observed by officers going to numerous locations and engaging in street takeovers where they would perform donuts, burnouts, and other dangerous stunts.
The illegal activities ended at the intersection of Wardlow Street and Norwalk Boulevard around 12:30 AM when the task force surrounded a portion of the group.
Multiple participants were cited and several vehicles involved in the illegal activities were towed. A total number of arrests made and vehicles towed was not immediately available.
Officers on scene say they are surveilling groups engaging in takeovers very closely and will continue enforcement notwithstanding the COVID-19 pandemic.
