Long Beach: Officer-Involved Shooting Leaves Armed Man Dead On Freeway

05.07.2020 | 11:30 PM | LONG BEACH – A man armed with a knife was dead after charging officers on a freeway, late Thursday night.

Officers responded to reports of a man walking in lanes on the northbound I-710 Freeway just south of the I-405 Freeway around 11:30 PM.

Units arriving on scene located the pedestrian in lanes holding a large knife and ordered the suspect to drop the weapon.

The suspect refused to comply and officers deployed less-lethal ammunition in order to subdue the man without success.

At one point the armed man charged officers and an officer-involved shooting occurred.

Firefighter paramedics responded to the scene and transported the suspect to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The identity of the suspect was not immediately available.

No officers were injured but a full freeway closure was in effect while the investigation progressed.
