Long Beach Homes Severely Damaged By Relentless Waves

Powerful waves continued battering the Long Beach Peninsula Saturday morning, October 10, 2026, causing significant damage to waterfront homes, the seawall and boardwalk.

Ground and aerial footage showed sections of the seawall and boardwalk broken apart, with debris scattered into the ocean. Waves washed beneath homes, while portions of one residence appeared separated from its foundation.

Police restricted access between 62nd and 67th places as officials assessed the damage.

As of Friday, two structures had been red-tagged and three yellow-tagged due to safety concerns.

With Tropical Storm Rachel approaching, forecasters warned of worsening conditions Sunday, including waves of 4 to 7 feet and high tides exceeding 7 feet.

Officials urged residents to avoid damaged structures, beaches and flooded areas as crews prepared for additional coastal flooding and erosion.
