Long Beach: Freeway Pileup Injures Eight

08.09.2020 | 11:49 PM | LONG BEACH – A freeway pileup involving as many as seven vehicles left eight people injured, late Sunday night.

The pileup started with a stalled vehicle on the southbound I-405 Freeway just south of Lakewood Boulevard around 11:49 PM.

While authorities were responding to the stalled vehicle another vehicle collided with it causing a chain-reaction crash involving multiple vehicles.

At least one of the vehicles overturned and landed on the northbound side of the freeway before being struck by another vehicle.

Firefighter paramedics treated and transported at least eight people to area hospitals.

One person tried to flee from the scene on foot but was detained by Long Beach police officers.

The circumstances surrounding the remain under investigation.
