Long Beach: Double Shooting Suspect Killed After Being Struck By Police Cruiser, Gunfire During Gunfight
02.20.2020 | 9:20 PM | LONG BEACH – A man who shot two people with a shotgun was killed by police after he reportedly fired at responding officers, Thursday night.
Authorities responded to reports of a shooting with two victims down near the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Market Street around 9:20 PM.
Officers arriving on scene located the suspected shooter armed with a shotgun and a gunfight ensued.
The suspect was killed after being struck by police gunfire and then hit by a police vehicle as he continued to shoot at officers.
Firefighter paramedics responding to the scene located the first of the two shooting victims in front of a Popeyes restaurant and the second nearby at a liquor store.
Both victims were transported to area hospitals. One of the victims was reportedly in critical condition.
An officers was also transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
A shotgun with a pistol grip recovered on scene.
The motive for the shootings was not immediately clear and an extensive investigation is underway.
