Long Beach: Cannabis Burglars Kill Pedestrian, Dog During High-Speed Pursuit

05.26.2020 | 11:15 PM | LONG BEACH – Seven suspects were arrested in connection with the burglary of a cannabis-related business that led to a pursuit that left a man and his dog dead, Tuesday night.

Authorities responded to reports of a burglary in progress with multiple suspects cutting down cannabis plants at a cannabis-related business located in the 2100 block of West Gayload Street around 11:15 PM.

Units arriving on scene observed a black Mercedes-Benz SUV fleeing the scene and high-speeds and attempted to stop the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle failed to yield to officers leading them on a high-speed pursuit.

During the pursuit the driver of the Mercedes-Benz struck and killed a man and his dog who were crossing the street near the intersection of Magnolia Avenue and 6th Street around 11:15 PM.

The chase ended when the suspect’s vehicle became disabled after crashing into a fence in the 600 block of Pine Avenue.

The driver of the vehicle along with two passengers were taken into custody without further incident.

Officers who responded to the scene of the burglary found an additional four suspects inside the business and located four additional suspect who were taken into custody after a brief standoff.

The circumstances surrounding the burglary and resulting pursuit remains under investion.

The identity of the victim who was struck by the suspect was not immediately released.
