Long Beach: Armed Robbery Suspect Shot Dead By Police

09.19.2019 | 11:30 PM | LONG BEACH – A man suspected of several armed robberies was shot to death after a confrontation with police, late Thursday night.

Authorities were conducting surveillance of two men suspected of several armed robberies in a Nissan Altima sedan around 11:30 PM.

While under surveillance the the vehicle stopped in the 5100 block of East Pacific Coast Highway and a passenger exited.

The passenger was armed and entered a nearby 7-Eleven convenience store in another apparent robbery attempt.

Officers followed the suspect inside the store in attempt to prevent another robbery and instructed the man to drop his weapon.

The suspect refused to comply with commands and an officer-involved shooting occurred.

Police performed life-saving measures until firefighter paramedics arrived but were unable to revive the man.

He was pronounced deceased onscene.

The driver of the Nissan Altima was taken into custody outside the convenience store without incident. He was identified as 22-year-old Devontae Moore of Long Beach and booked on suspicion of robbery.

An investigation is ongoing.
