Long Beach: Apartment Fire Kills One, Injures Another

11.26.2018 | 11:30 PM | LONG BEACH – A woman was killed and her husband injured after a fire broke out in their Belmont Shore apartment, late Monday night.

Firefighters responded to reports of a fire at an apartment near the intersection of 38th Pace and East Ocean Boulevard around 11:30 PM.

Crews responding found an apartment with heavy fire showing and located a male reporting his wife was trapped inside.

Firefighters immediately attacked the fire and entered to rescue the female victim.

Despite their efforts the female was pronounced deceased after being pulled from the building. Her husband was treated on scene and transported to an area hospital in moderate condition.

The fire was controlled within 30 minutes without spreading to nearby units.

Initial reports indicate an oxygen tank being used by the female victim may have exploded however those reports were not immediately confirmed.

Police and fire investigators were on scene determining the cause of the fire.
