Lake Hughes: Fast-Moving Lake Fire Ravages 10,000+ Acres
08.12.2020 | 11:36 PM | LAKE HUGHES – A fast-moving fire dubbed the “Lake Fire” ravaged over 10,000 acres, destroying homes and injuring at least one firefighter in under a day.
The fire was first reported around 3:30 PM near the intersection of North Lake Hughes Road and Pine Canyon Road in the Angeles National Forest.
When crews first arrived on scene they quickly called for a second-alarm response to help battle the fast-moving fire.
By 8:30 PM over 10,000 acres and several buildings had burned.
One firefighter suffered unspecified injuries and was transported by ambulance for treatment.
Multiple road closures and evacuations are in effect and expected to last through the night and firefighters battle the blaze.
Those under evacuation can respond to the Highland High School in Palmdale where an American Red Cross temporary evacuation site is set-up.
Animal boarding is available at several locations including the Castaic Animal Care Center, Lancaster Animal Care Center, and the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds.
