Lake Forest: Deputy-Involved Shooting Leaves Woman Dead
06.24.2020 | 1:12 AM | LAKE FOREST – A woman who may have falsely reported a burglary and was armed with a handgun was dead after a deputy-involved shooting, early Wednesday morning.
Authorities responded to reports of a burglary in progress at a home in the 22000 block of Loumont Drive, near the intersection of Muirlands Boulevard and Ridge Route Drive, shortly before 1:12 AM.
Deputies arriving on scene encountered a woman in her 20s armed with a handgun near the residence.
The woman failed to drop the handgun after multiple verbal commands and a deputy-involved shooting occurred.
Firefighter paramedics responded to the scene and transported the woman to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
Initial investigation revealed that the female was in possession of the cell phone that called to report the burglary in progress.
Residents from the home reportedly being burglarized were contacted by authorities and said that no burglary occurred and that they did not contact deputies.
It is unclear why the woman falsely reported the burglary in progress.
The identity of the suspect was not immediately revealed pending notification of next-of-kin.
An investigation into the deputy-involved shooting is underway.
