  1. LOS ANGELES (CNS) – One person was discovered with severe burns and pronounced dead at the scene after firefighters extinguished a tree fire in South Los Angeles before sunrise Thursday.

    Officers and firefighters responded to the 500 block of East Vernon Avenue, near Avalon Boulevard, around 5 a.m. Thursday to reports regarding a tree on fire, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

    After firefighters extinguished the flames, a body was discovered with severe burns, and the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

    “The cause of the fire is currently undetermined. LAPD Robbery- Homicide Division, the LAFD Arson Unit, and the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner are conducting a joint investigation into the circumstances of the fire and the cause of death,” police said in a statement.
