LACoFD Battles Intense 3 Alarm Fire

INCIDENT DATE/TIME:8:08 am – 5-8-24
LOCATION: 5400 Cortland St
AREA/CITY: Lynwood
DETAILS:

  1. A massive fire ripped through a commercial building early Wednesday morning.
  2. A massive plume of smoke could be see as far as Signal Hill.
  3. A deputy at the scene was sprayed with unknown chemical he said was caused by an explosion he says was caused by acetone.
  4. Burning clothing can be see inside the warehouse style building.
  5. A deep smell of chemicals in the air.
  6. A company next door where they sale possibly roofing material was moving product that was lined up next to the fire.
  7. Lots of smoke that smells like chemicals are filling surrounding streets.
  8. The fire is next to Marco Antonio Firebaugh High School. Unknown if school was placed on lockdown due to heavy chemical smoke.
