La Mirada: Man Trapped After Box Truck Slams Into Tanker Carrying Liquid Nitrogen

06.14.2019 | 12:13 AM | LA MIRADA – Firefighters had to cut a man free from the wreckage of a crash involving a box truck and a tanker hauling liquid nitrogen, early Friday morning.

Authorities responded to the reported traffic collision involving two large trucks near the intersection of Valley View Street and Garnett Avenue around 12:13 AM.

Crews arriving on scene located a man trapped inside a box truck that had collided head-on with a tanker hauling liquid nitrogen.

Using a heavy rescue fire rig along with the Jaws of Life and other power tools firefighters were able to free the trapped man within 45 minutes.

Firefighter paramedics treated the man on scene before transporting him to UCI Medical Center in critical condition.

Police were investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
