K-9 Officer Injured After Patrol Unit Rolls in Houston

At approximately 12:00am on March 28th, 2026, a Houston Police Department K-9 officer was involved in a major traffic collision while responding to assist units during a vehicle pursuit in the downtown area.

According to authorities, the officer was traveling southbound on Smith Street with emergency equipment activated when a vehicle traveling westbound on Pease Street collided with the patrol unit. The impact caused the police vehicle to flip and roll nearly an entire block.

The officer was able to regain awareness, call out their location over the radio, and check on the occupants of the other vehicle. The officer was transported to a local hospital and was believed to be in stable condition. The K-9 was also transported for evaluation as a precaution.

Officials said two occupants from the civilian vehicle were also transported to local hospitals with unknown conditions.

The crash remained under investigation.
