Jamul: Officers Bear Sprayed, K9 Stabbed By Crazed Man

10.15.2019 | 10:10 AM | JAMUL – Four officers and a police K-9 were injured after being attacked by a crazed man, Tuesday morning.

An agent from the United States Border Patrol attempted to stop a vehicle occupied by a male subject in the 1500 block of Skyline Truck Trail around 10:10 AM.

During the stop the male became non-compliant and refused to exit his vehicle, prompting the agent to call for additional help.

Several deputies from the San Diego Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and approach the man who deployed a can of bear spray.

Four officers were hit by the spray and suffered minor injuries as a result.

A K9 officer was deployed to attempt to subdue the man but he stabbed the dog.

Eventually using less-lethal ammunition including a beanbag round and tasers the man was able to be taken into custody.

The suspect remained violent even while in custody prompting officials to use a body wrap to subdue him while he was transported to an area hospital for treatment related to the taser deployment.

The K9 officer was rushed by his handler with lights and sirens to a nearby veterinarian for emergency surgery. The dog sustained injuries to his face as a result of the stab wound but was expected to survive.

An investigation is ongoing.
