Irvine: Police Catch Man Burglarizing Building

07.19.2020 | 2:30 AM | IRVINE – Police caught a man burglarizing a commercial building, early Sunday morning.

Officers spotted a suspect burglarizing a two-story commercial building located in the 14900 block of San Canyon Avenue, near Burt Road, around 2:30 AM.

The suspect fled from officers but was quickly detained in a nearby parking lot.

Additional officers and two police helicopters responded to the area and established a perimeter while police searched for any additional suspects.

A team of officers and a police K9 made entry into the building and determined it was empty and that no additional suspects were outstanding.

The building being burglarized is the the Old Town Irvine Historic General Store. It was unclear what business currently operates in the building or if it was vacant.
