Irvine: Hour-Long Kidnapping Pursuit Ends When Suspects Runs Out Of Gas

03.21.2019 | 11:00 PM | IRVINE – Two men were in custody after allegedly kidnapping a woman and leading police on a high-speed pursuit, Thursday night.

The pursuit began after a woman texted her boyfriend informing him that she had been kidnapped by two men who were refusing to let her exit their vehicle.

Officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle, a red Toyota, and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle failed to yield, leading officers on a 90-minute long pursuit from Los Angeles to Orange County.

The chase ended when the suspect vehicle ran out of gas and came to a stop on the southbound I-405 at University Drive.

The driver and passenger, who was handicapped, were both taken into custody without incident. The reported kidnapping victim was unharmed.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the reported kidnapping.
