Inglewood: Hoax Bomb Planted Near School Detonated By Bomb Squad
11.25.2018 | 9:30 PM | INGLEWOOD – A sheriff’s bomb squad detonated a suspected explosive device near a school before determining the device was fake, Sunday night.
A citizen flagged down officers in the 700 block of West Beach Avenue across from the Highland Elementary School around 9:30 PM.
The concerned citizen reported seeing wires dangling from the bottom of a 2004 Acura sedan that appeared connected to a box.
An explosive’s detection K9 responded and alerted to the package prompting a bomb squad to respond to the scene.
Authorities cordoned off the area surrounding the vehicle for hours while the bomb squad performed two detonations using specialized robots.
After the detonations were performed to render the device safe, a closer inspection revealed the whole incident may have been a set-up.
According to authorities no live material was found within the device however it appears to have been set up to mimic a vehicle borne improvised explosive device.
Detectives are continuing to investigate the source of the device.
