Industry: Robbery Suspect With Rifle Injured After Police Chase, Shootout
08.07.2020 | 1:00 AM | INDUSTRY – A man who was armed with an AK-47 tried to rob a pharmacy before being chased by police and later injured in a shootout, early Friday morning.
The series of events began when 23-year-old Rogelio Ochoa of Santa Fe Springs entered a CVS pharmacy in La Puente with a rifle and attempted to rob the pharmacy around 1:00 AM.
Ochoa was unsuccessful at the CVS and fled to a nearby Shell gas station at Gail Avenue and Hacienda Boulevard where he robbed the clerk at around 1:08 AM.
Deputies spotted Ochoa and attempted to stop him when a volley of gunfire broke out.
Ochoa fled in a Honda Accord prompting a pursuit that ended when the suspect crashed near Crossroads Parkway and the SR-60 Freeway at a Chevron gas station.
When Ochoa exited the vehicle a second shootout occured and he was struck multiple times by gunfire from deputies.
Firefighter paramedics rushed Ochoa to an area hospital where he was in unknown condition.
Additional weapons were discovered inside Ochoa’s vehicle and authorities believe he may also be a suspect in a shooting that occurred outside a gun store in HAcienda Heights on Thursday around 10:00 PM.
