Deputies responded to the sound of a loud crash outside their station near the intersection of Hacienda Boulevard and Nelson Avenue around 12:40 AM.
On scene deputies located what appeared to be a Hyundai SUV that struck a light pole at high-speeds causing it to split in half.
The front half of the vehicle apparently caught air and struck a brick building while the rear half came to rest in southbound lanes of traffic.
Miraculously the driver and solo occupant of the vehicle was alive and treated by firefighter paramedics on scene before being transporting to an area hospital.
Due to the severity of the crash authorities have cordoned off the scene while they investigate.
Drugs, alcohol, and speed are all being investigated as potential factors in the New Year’s Day crash.
