Industrial Fire Breaks Out at Bayport Chemical Plant

At approximately 9:00pm on March 12th, 2026, emergency crews responded to an industrial fire at the LyondellBasell Bayport facility located at 10801 Choate Road near Pasadena, Texas.

Officials reported the fire began at a chemical process unit inside the facility following what was described as an operational upset that triggered flaring — a safety process used to burn off excess materials during abnormal operating conditions.

Firefighters, hazmat teams, and multiple responding agencies remained on scene working to bring the incident under control. Authorities confirmed that all personnel at the facility were accounted for and no injuries had been reported.

The La Porte Office of Emergency Management stated that flames and smoke may be visible from the facility, but no protective actions were required for the surrounding community. Harris County Pollution Control Services also reported that air monitoring around the site had not detected hazardous readings.

Officials said crews were working to close a valve releasing a mixture of chemicals, and the fire had been contained and was not expected to spread further. The Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office will investigate the cause once the scene is safe.
