Hyde Park: Suspect Shot Dead After Opening Fire On Deputy During Car Stop
08.01.2019 | 12:57 AM | HYDE PARK – A suspect who opened fire on a lone deputy during a car stop was killed by return fire, early Thursday morning.
The shooting occuring during a car stop for a moving violation near the intersection of Brynhurst Avenue and 71st Street around 12:57 AM.
When the lone Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department deputy stopped the vehicle a passenger quickly exited and began walking away.
The suspect pulled out a semiautomatic handgun and then opened fire when the deputy ordered him to stop and shot his hands.
At the same time the driver of the vehicle, described only as a Tan mid-2000s SUV fled the scene.
Firefighter paramedics arriving on scene pronounced the passenger who opened fire deceased on scene.
The deputy was not injured in the shooting and a semiautomatic weapon was recovered from the scene.
Authorities have not yet located the driver who fled the scene when the shooting broke out.
An investigation is ongoing.
