Huntington Beach: Explosion Injures Civilians & Firefighters At Oktoberfest
10.05.2019 | 8:10 PM | HUNTINGTON BEACH – An explosion inside an underground electrical vault at a popular Oktoberfest celebration left civilians and firefighters injured , Saturday night.
Authorities responded to reports of an explosion and subsequent power outage in the 7500 block of Center Avenue at the Old World Village’s Okotberfest celebration around 8:19 PM.
Crews arriving on scene were met with subsequent explosions and fire coming from an underground electrical vault and radioed for help.
Additional help arriving on scene found several civilians and firefighters suffering from injuries relating to the explosion and subsequent fire.
Firefighter paramedics treated and transported a total of three civilians and two firefighters to area hospitals. At least one civilian was described as suffering from severe burns.
Initial reports indicate that a total of three transformers contained in an underground vault exploded sending flames shooting into the air and rocking nearby buildings.
Over 300 customers were without power as a result of the explosion.
The cause is under investigation.
