HPD Cruiser Catches Fire After Crash During Pursuit | Houston
03.29.2022 | 1:13 AM | HOUSTON – An officer from HPD North Shepherd area observed a vehicle doing suspicious activities & ran the license plate.
The vehicle is connected to a previous catalytic converted investigation so the officer followed the car.
The vehicle then ran a red light in front of the HPD officer.
The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle.
The suspect yielded & when the officer approached the suspect fled.
A short pursuit ensued going west on Little York.
When the officer was going through the intersection, he struck a sedan.
The crash caused the HPD cruiser to catch fire.
The officer was able to self extricate and sustained minor scrapes.
The female (Hispanic 53 year old) driving the sedan was trapped in her vehicle and later transported as a precaution with minor injuries.
The officer was not transported.
HPD VCD is handling the investigation.
